Soft Earth Landscapes is a native habitat design, build, and care practice serving the San Francisco Bay Area.

Native habitats support people and ecosystems by conserving water, providing food and shelter for wildlife, and connecting to the land around us. Habitat gardens provide people and wildlife with unique opportunities for connection, stewardship, and rest.

As urbanization and climate change intensify, our own health is tied to the health of our local ecosystems and personal relationships.

LANDSCAPE DESIGN

I offer landscape design services to help you figure out where things should go. My designs prioritize locally-native plants, reused materials, water-efficient irrigation, year-round color, and thoughtful maintenance.

Typical projects often include garden redesigns, lawn conversions, irrigation retrofits, material sourcing, and construction coordination. I also provide maintenance and installation services, considered on a case-by-case basis.

I recommend including indigenous people, practices, and reparations in all of our work together. I often consult with and learn from Nicholas Hummingbird, found at @california_native_plants and www.californianativeseedstore.com.

CONSULTATION

I also offer hourly consultation and education. Some possible examples may include:

  • Figuring out a watering schedule for your complex shade pattern

  • Identifying those bird noises you hear every morning

  • Finding a local source for your landscape materials

  • Learning about how your plants interact with your local wildlife

  • Phasing your project(s)
